May Challenge Winners

Well everyone, you sure do know how to make it hard for us. LOL! It was incredibly hard to choose just a few out of 124 entries so I asked the Design Team to do something different and choose some of their faves to feature here as winners. I will also put these names in a draw for the prizes that we have to give away this month too.

So here we go..

1. Teresa Manchas (USA)

Design Team member Heather Jacob says : "so many beautiful dimensions to this page Teresa, I adore the softness of the layered banner draping across the corner, the butterflies, the layering and all the fussy cutting is just exquisite AND that precious photo completes a perfect page ....  a wonderful, magical  page to treasure x "

Design Team member Jasmine Shea says : "I loved reading about her grandmother’s story and the sentiment behind that gorgeous photo was beautiful.  The feathered wings with the jewel was just stunning and there is such a delicacy to this page."

3. Charmane Koch (Australia)
Neverthought-blog
Design Team member Heather Jacob says : "this layout stood out to me in the gallery . I love the rich earthy brown hues, the monochromatic tones, the way you have placed the stencil flowing over the photo , all the elements perfectly placed giving such a gorgeous whimsical, arty feel to this entire creation ... I love every little piece of this beautiful page Charmaine . x "

4. Hilde Aaslund (Norway)
Design Team member Jasmine Shea says : "The honesty and humour in Hilde’s page caught my attention along with the simplicity yet effectiveness of her page.  It just shows that there is a whole other side to our “motherhood”.

5. Erin Blegen ( USA)

Design Team Member Trudi Harrison says: "Erin’s project dedication to her mother is honest, touching and heartfelt. The gorgeous colours, layering, fussy cut elements and amazing attention to detail make this a total stand out"

Design Team Member Georgia Heald says:  "I love the bold colors, the layered fussy cutting, the great mix of clean lines and perfectly placed messy and of course the honest and touching story to the page. Complete standout for me!!"

6. Cathy Cafun (Australia)

Design Team Member Trudi Harrison says: "Cathy’s page is pure vintage delight.  Terrific interpretation, composition, arrangement and detail make this page a total stunner"

7. Adriana Bolzon (Australia)
Design Team Member Patti Hamil says: "I chose this beautiful layout because it stood out to me in every detail. The aged looking cracked photo, the perfect banner with stunning little details, the lucious floral clusters......there is just so much to say about this beautiful page!"

8. Lynnda Hosni ( Australia)
Design Team Member Patti Hamil says: " I chose this layout because I loved the vibrant and bright colors. I also loved how she did the journaling. The layered photos were visually stunning too. It’s just a really well balanced page, and the style is so fresh!"

9. Keren Tamir ( Canada)
Design Team member Natalie Elphinstone says: "Although Keren's journaling is hidden on the layout, she's shared it on her blog and it's just so very touching. It's honest and heartfelt and I think that's exactly what OUAS is hoping to inspire our contributors to do. Despite her children not being biologically hers Keren has captured and expressed the exact same emotions that all of us feel when we hold our children in our arms for the first time. This is a beautiful layout not only in it's design but in it's sentiment even more so"

10. Lovelez'Lao ( Philippines)
Design Team member Natalie Elphinstone says: "I love the way she has created such diverse texture and layers in her background and her layout is so lovely to look at. But even more importantly is how much wonderful honest and hearfelt journalling she has hidden so cleverly in a scroll on her page. She shows how motherhood isn't always peaches and cream, but it's always worth it! Wishing you all the best as you plan on adding to your beautiful family"

11. Billie- Jean Beveridge (Australia)
I (Nadia) chose to feature this layout as I simply could not look past the journalling. Billie - Jean, I thank you for your journalling as it is so true and heartfelt and something most of us can relate to. The ever evolving relationship between mother and daughter and not fully appreciating what they mean to us until we have children of our own. I, for one, can tell you that reading your journalling was like reading my story. Besides that, your layout is beautiful. I like everything about it..the interpretation of the sketch, the flower cluster and colours. Just wonderful. I hope you give this to your mum!!

12. Chantelle Huizenga (Australia)

I also chose to feature this layout and the reason is that the gorgeous photo stood out to me in the gallery. I wanted to follow the link and read the journalling behind this beautiful photo and Chantelle's journalling is sweet and so true.  I love the soft and warm feel one gets when looking at that picture of a mum with a her 4 boys. The intricate details and colours you have chosen here Chantelle are just gorgeous and I couldn't look pas this one. Well done.

13. Kitika (Russia)

Design Team member Bente Fagerberg says : "Kitika has an eye for mixing those beautifully patterned papers, and has combined them with delightful embellishments to make this exquisite layout.I love how she made that cute banner out of roses and how the other flower embellishments manage to draw the eye to that absolutely delightful photograph. I just love this!!

**Edited - I am sorry I made a mistake with the features and posted the wrong layout under Kitika's name. I have now corrected it but I believe that the original layout I featured, which was Riika' s still deserves to be featured and here it is . I apologise for this!

Design Team Announcement!!

Finally after all the stress and anxiety about who to add and having to send unhappy mail to people I am excited to announce the new team that will be with us for the next 12 months.

Firstly THANK YOU once again to everyone that took the time out of their busy lives to send me an email. I know from personal experience what it takes to put your self out there and then the anxiety that follows. I have visited everyone's blogs and galleries and that was painstaking yes but also very rewarding as I got to add many many blogs to my Google Reader. I wish I could add everyone to this team and I am sorry that I couldn't but I hope the people that were chosen will continue to provide the same inspiration that the current team has been providing for you all. It was very very hard. As I said to many, I am not cut out for this sort of thing and I did receive some help in deciding and we still ended up with a HUGE international Design Team. I tried to mix up the styles, the countries of origin , the skill level and so on .....I think we have achieved that. I am incredibly pleased with the talent here and am pretty positive you will be too.

So without further delay please welcome the brand new (with a couple of oldies :) ) Once Upon A...Sketch Design Team. The team will be split into 2 groups who will show their work on the 1st and the 15th of each month.

June Challenge + Meet Our June Guest Designer Eila Sandberg

Hi there everyone. Its time to reveal a new challenge here at Once Upon A..Sketch. As you know we recently had a Design Team call, which ended just tonight. Thank you SO very much to everyone that applied and expressed their interest and kind words towards our blog and being involved in our Design Team. The team has just about been finalised and I will send emails out in the next week or so.

Can I also take a moment to THANK YOU all from the bottom of my heart for the amazing support you showed us in May. We had a RECORD 124 entries! WOW! The Design Team and I have been overwhelmed and we are sorry if we could not get to everyone this month... We are devising a new way to show the winners this month because there are simply TOO MANY gorgeous ones not to be acknowledged. So stay tuned in the next few days when I announce the winners.

The theme of this challenge is BIRTHDAYS

We would like you to create a layout and interpret the theme "BIRTHDAYS" however you like based on the following sketch. You can journal as little or as much as you like, but your layout must incorporate this theme and the sketch below. Please make sure that we see some sort of journalling on your layouts and please tell us where your journalling is . Hidden journalling is perfectly fine.

Ideas for Journalling:most memorable birthday celebration for you or anyone in your family, the last birthday you celebrated and tell us your thoughts on turning this age, your child's/other family member's birthday and your thoughts on their age, a birthday that was a turning point in your life and your excitement/fears or other thoughts you had, an upcoming birthday for you or anyone and your thoughts, the best birthday present you ever received/gave and why?. You can also base your layout on a non - person birthday. This means your birthday theme can be based on : a pet, a business venture, a milestone anniversary etc etc. Its up to you how you interpret "BIRTHDAYS
